Actor Michael Madsen filed for divorce, claiming he was his wife’s victim DeAnna Madsen‘s abuse for years.

According to TMZ, Michael, 66, cited irreconcilable differences after filing for divorce on Wednesday, September 18. Legal documents revealed that Michael and DeAnna, 64, legally separated in January 2022 because he believed “her neglect, drinking and alcoholism” caused the suicide of their son Hudson.

The actor, who has been married to DeAnna since 1996, accused his estranged wife of putting him in an “abusive, dependent and toxic relationship” while seeking a domestic violence restraining order. He blamed DeAnna’s alleged behavior for his arrest on domestic violence charges last month.

Michael was arrested in August for domestic violence. He was charged under California Penal Code Section 243(e)(1), which is violence against a roommate. DeAnna reportedly refused to seek medical attention after police arrived at the scene, and Michael was later released after posting $20,000 bail.

“It was a disagreement between Michael and his wife that we hope will be resolved positively for both,” a spokesperson said in a statement at the time. “We are thrilled that Michael Madsen can put this behind him and look forward to our continued collaboration on more great things to come from this experienced and respected actor.”

The Los Angeles District Attorney said TMZ They would not press charges because there was not enough evidence.

DeAnna has not yet responded to Michael’s allegations. She previously said that Michael had “issues.”

“Michael is struggling with his own personal problems,” she said The Hollywood Reporter at the time. “I and our children have supported him to the best of our ability. We request privacy at this time.”

Michael’s lawyer Perry Wander responded by accusing DeAnna of breaking into Michael’s Malibu home, which is why he “confronted” her and “asked” her to leave. Wander said the situation had been “an ongoing problem” for her.

“Michael has shown tremendous compassion and restraint toward his estranged wife during this time,” he continued. “He is definitely not guilty of domestic violence.”

The former couple have sons Calvin (27), Luke (18) and Hudson (18), who committed suicide in January 2022 at the age of 26. Michael also has sons Christian (34) and Max (30) with his ex-wife. Jeannine Bisignano.

Following the death of their son Hudson, Michael was arrested for trespassing in Malibu, according to TMZ. He was also sentenced to four days in jail and five years of probation after being involved in a car accident in 2019. Michael was also arrested for driving under the influence in 2012 and sentenced to 30 days of rehabilitation.
