(CBS) — Michigan Central will be open to the public through Labor Day weekend after the revitalized building has already welcomed over 100,000 visitors.

The station celebrated its grand reopening in Juneincluding a 10-day open house celebration and a concert featuring music icons such as Diana Ross, Eminem, Big Sean and Jack White.

In response to the thousands of visitors, the station is expanding public access to “offer one last chance to experience and learn about the building’s transformation from ruin to rebirth through the OPEN exhibitions before the station enters the next phase of its reactivation,” a press release said.

Michigan Central is open Fridays from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. through August 31. It is also open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on September 1 and 2.

“This outpouring of support has been truly inspiring,” Michigan Central CEO Joshua Sirefman said in a statement. “The station is more than just a building; it is a symbol of the city’s strength and a catalyst for innovation, and we are proud to welcome the community back to this iconic Detroit landmark.”

According to official figures, over 50,000 people visited the station between June 7 and 16. Since June 21, the average number of visitors has been 3,000 on Fridays and 5,000 on Saturdays.

The building, located in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood, closed over 30 years ago and was acquired by Ford Motor Company in 2018. Ford has spent the past six years revitalizing the station and plans to transform it into a technology and cultural center that will attract entrepreneurs, students, competitors and others to develop new technologies and products.
