MANISTEE, MI – This completely renovated dog park is ideal for an afternoon adventure with your four-legged family members.

The dog park at First Street Beach/Douglas Park was upgraded earlier this year and now features new agility equipment, running water and more.

Overall, the park offers numerous amenities, including three playgrounds, pavilions and picnic tables, a boat ramp, and a dog beach, providing everything visitors could want for a day on the sand and in the freshwater sea.

This is probably why it was recently voted the best beach in Michigan in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.

Directions

The park is located in Manistee at 100 S. Lakeshore Drive. It consists of two loops and the boardwalk. The dog park is located on the south loop. You can drive your vehicle right up to the fence. It is on the right hand side, just past the main beach.

Make sure your dog wears a collar with markings and always have a leash handy just in case.

Bring everything you need for an enjoyable visit to a dog park, like a ball, treats, poop bags, and water. It’s also a good idea to bring a towel to wipe sand off your pup before getting back in your car. There’s also a dog beach nearby.

The dog park

This park has recently been upgraded and the reopening and inauguration took place in July.

It features new fencing, wooden agility structures, running water and poop bag dispensers, and benches and picnic tables for pet owners.

The innovative dog drinking system features running water that flows into a metal chute and then into a solid metal dog bowl. Lift the lever to turn on the water.

There are areas for large and small dogs, both very shady.

First Street Beach/Douglas Park

There is so much to do and see at First Street Beach/Douglas Park that visitors could spend a few hours, a day, or even an entire vacation there.

Amenities include three playgrounds, a bathhouse with catering, a dog park, a dog beach, gazebos, a pavilion used for summer concerts surrounded by grills and picnic tables, a large boat ramp, a fish cleaning station, tennis and basketball courts, softball fields, access to the city’s riverfront, two walkable piers, and a five-story hotel.

Concerts, festivals, fireworks, fishing tournaments and more are held here year-round. Parking is plentiful and free throughout the park.

The main beach area is ADA accessible and features a life jacket and safety station, the bathhouse and a volleyball net.
