Millvale High School Grand Reunion, Moms Sale and more in Shaler area

Looking back at the reunion

On July 20, Millvale High School’s 13th Grand Reunion was held at the Croatian Center. The event has been held every two years since 1998 (except for 2020 due to the pandemic) and welcomes all alumni, attendees and friends of Millvale High School for a day filled with dinner, refreshments, an all-day disc jockey to listen and dance, a 50/50 raffle, gift baskets, a lottery ticket frame raffle – and lots of memories of school days and classmates and the Millvale district. There were 250 attendees, including attendees from Florida, Texas and Illinois, as well as the surrounding areas.

Millvale High School closed in 1971 when it, the Etna Borough Schools, the Reserve Township Schools (whose high school students attended Millvale High School), and the Shaler Township School District merged to form the Shaler Area School District. From 1927 to 1971, there were more than 2,700 graduates. The smallest class was in 1927, with 12 students; the largest was in 1941, with 101 students. A complete set of the Millvale High School yearbook, The Millvalean, is available at the Millvale Community Library.

The oldest alumna in attendance was Lillian Imhof Smeresky, graduating class of 1948. Also in attendance was former teacher and principal Dr. James Kermes. The Grand Reunion Committee has been co-chaired by Joanne Herbe Majors (graduating class of 1957) and Ralph Schranghamer (graduating class of 1966) for a decade and its members include alumnae from the graduating classes of 1949 to 1971.

The next big reunion is scheduled for July 18, 2026. If you would like to be added to the mailing list or would like more information, call Karen Ulrich at 412-821-4571 and leave a message.

Greybrooke Garden Club

The Greybrooke Garden Club will host a fall sale of hardy chrysanthemums at McCandless Crossing on the lawn near BJ’s Restaurant and Bonefish Grill on Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help the club support its annual donations to conservation groups and nonprofits.

The club will also host an evening meeting on September 11th and guests are welcome! Come to the Latodami Nature Center in North Park at 6 p.m. where a Latodami naturalist will present a program on owls. We will learn how Pennsylvania’s quietest hunters rise at sunset and hunt in the darkness. The center is located at 575 Brown Road in Pine Township. The business meeting and light refreshments will follow the program. If you would like to attend, please RSVP by calling Karen at 412-366-2096 by September 4th.
