MINNEAPOLIS — A Minneapolis family is hoping for the best after their 20-year-old cat was kidnapped from outside their home.

It happened last Friday just before 5:45 p.m. in the 3100 block of Humboldt Ave South.

Erika Brask says her cat, Silverton, briefly wandered from her backyard to her house. Surveillance footage shows a silver SUV pulling up in front of her house before a passenger gets out and takes the cat. The car stops briefly before driving away.

“I was just shocked, of course. She’s a 20-year-old cat – we’ve had her in the family our whole life,” Brask said. “To think that I’m a 20-year-old cat and I don’t know what’s wrong with her just makes me sick.”

Brask says she filed a report with Minneapolis police — and also notified local animal shelters and veterinary clinics — in the hopes that whoever took the cat thought it was a stray.

“Someone out there knows something, either they know the people who brought her home or they were with the person who took her. So please, I’m just begging the public at this point,” Brask said.

She hopes anyone who sees her cat will call All Paws Animal Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minneapolis Animal Control or the humane society.

“We’re going to keep looking and hope that someone comes forward who believes they’re doing the right thing,” Brask said. “Frankly, we just want her back, no questions asked.”
