Minnesota Vikings at New York Giants: Third quarter recap and fourth quarter discussion

Ladies and gentlemen, put your fours in the air as we enter the final fifteen minutes of the 2024 NFL season opener at MetLife Stadium, with the Minnesota Vikings leading the New York Giants, 28-6.

The Vikings had the football at the start of the first half and the offense picked up right where it left off, marching down the field and getting into the end zone again. The drive culminated in Sam Darnold’s second touchdown pass of the day when he found Jalen Nailor for a 21-yard touchdown. Will Reichard converted the extra point and it quickly became 21-3 to the Vikings.

The Giants scored their first point since the first quarter on the ensuing possession when Graham Gano hit a 50-yard shot with six minutes left in the third quarter to make the score 21-6. After a Vikings punt, another new face made its presence felt for the Vikings when Andrew Van Ginkel stepped in front of a Daniel Jones pass, intercepted it and strolled in with a pick-six to make it 28-6 for the good guys.

Things didn’t go well for the Vikings, as Sam Darnold attempted a long-range shot and was hit in the arm by Dexter Lawrence, leading to an interception for Giants rookie Darius Muasau at midfield. The Giants are currently on the rise and will expect a 1st-and-10 from the Minnesota 24-yard line when play resumes.

We’re almost through the opening game of the 2024 NFL season at MetLife Stadium and the Minnesota Vikings have a comfortable 28-6 lead over the New York Giants. Will they get their first win of 2024? Come find out!
