As the NFL’s August 27 deadline for each team’s 53-man roster draws ever closer, the axes are slowly being unpacked. The latest former Kentucky player to receive that unwanted call is offensive lineman, Jeremy Flaxwhen the Minnesota Vikings released the man affectionately known as “Big Jerm” earlier this week.

However, instead of simply releasing him, the Vikings placed him on an injured designation, meaning that since he passed the waivers list, he will remain on the team’s injured list and will have to sit out the entire 2024 season unless he and the team come to an agreement regarding the injury.

The Vikings did not disclose Flax’s injury, but a physical limitation would explain why Flax did not participate in the team’s preseason games.

Flax went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft after playing in 36 games for Kentucky, starting 24 of them. Flax participated in the Hula Bowl in January and the Reese’s Senior Bowl in February before participating in the NFL Combine.

Last season, he received a respectable 75.4 pass blocking rating from Pro Football Focus (PFF), which ranks him second-best among Kentucky starters.

Let’s hope that Flax’s injury is not serious and that either the Vikings or another team will give him another chance in the league.
