MLB tips, odds for Wednesday

MLB tips, odds for Wednesday

When the Yankees and Mariners meet in Seattle on Wednesday, Nestor Cortes and Bryce Miller will face off on the mound.

Cortes pitched to a 7-3 win in the Bronx on May 22.

But if there’s one glaring theme with the Yankees left-hander this season, it’s the polarizing differences between his home and away numbers.

Something about the unfamiliarity has affected Cortes’ control, as he is issuing more walks and making fewer strikeouts, resulting in an away ERA that is 1.70 higher than at home.

Similar to the Yankees, the Mariners are stingy swingers and have therefore accumulated the fourth most walks in the Major League.

From there they can steal, with three players capturing more than 20 bases.

Seattle’s lineup was underwhelming overall, but it managed to pull through in the home stretch: With a slash line of .292/.375/.483 and an 8-3 run, they led the MLB before this series.

Nevertheless, the Yankees won the first game on Tuesday 11-2 thanks to strong performances from Juan Soto and Aaron Judge, helped by an early baserunning error by Victor Robles.

A playoff spot is within reach for the Mariners – they are three games behind the Twins in the battle for last place – because they have the number one rotation in the MLB (3.54 ERA).

His diverse arsenal of seven pitch types couldn’t fool New York in the last game, and he allowed a season-record three home runs in six innings.

Unlike Cortes, Miller is one of the most dominant home pitchers and has an ERA of 1.99 at T-Mobile Park.

Miller leads the group with 6th place in the overall Stuff+ ranking, which measures the physical characteristics of throws such as release point, movement and speed.
