MCKINLEYVILLE, CALIFORNIA – At 8:49 a.m. this morning, the Arcata Fire District was notified of a mobile home burning in the 2000 block of Daffodil Ave.

Assistant Chief McDonald was the first to arrive on scene and discovered visible flames behind a one-story home.

Fire engine 8219 was the first to arrive on scene and was assigned to fight the fire. Shortly thereafter, the remaining Arcata Fire Department fire engines arrived and assisted with firefighting and overhaul.

After the fire was initially extinguished, Arcata Fire Department personnel were notified of the mobile home occupant suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. Chief McDonald then tended to the patient and requested an ambulance.

The cause of the fire is suspected to be a gas appliance that triggered an explosive reaction when the resident tried to light the pilot flame.

Arcata Fire would like to remind residents to use caution when lighting gas appliances and to ensure adequate ventilation in small living spaces.

We would like to thank Arcata-Mad River Ambulance for their quick response time and PG&E for their power line safety assessment.
