Monroe Regional Airport is supporting the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division in a large-scale training exercise

MONROE, La. (KNOE) – Over the next two days, Monroe Regional Airport will play a critical role in supporting U.S. Army operations as part of a significant exercise. The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) made a strategic stop at the airport to refuel and resupply during its large-scale long-range air assault (L2A2) mission.

The exercise is an important part of the division’s preparation for assault training objectives at Fort Johnson, Louisiana. The operation includes several stops along the flight route, with major refueling and resupply locations in Oxford and Tunica, Mississippi, and Monroe, Minden, and Alexandria, Louisiana.

Colonel Travis McIntosh, deputy commander of the 101st Airborne Division, expressed his gratitude for the support from the Monroe community.

“As you can see behind me, we have 12 aircraft on the ground here and we’re sending more aircraft through on their way to Fort Johnson, Louisiana. Monroe Regional Airport served as a staging area for us to do maintenance and to house some of our aircrew,” said Col. McIntosh. “The integration and collaboration where we actually get help from the local communities – I just want to say thank you for all that support along the way.”
