Moorhead police release the most detailed information yet on the 10-year-unsolved murder of NDSU student Tom Bearson

On Friday, Moorhead police released the most detailed information yet on the unsolved murder of a college student that has been under investigation for a decade.

Tom Bearson, a basketball standout from Sartell, Minnesota, disappeared on September 20, 2014, just weeks into his freshman year at North Dakota State University in Fargo. The 18-year-old’s body was found three days later at an RV sales lot in Moorhead. Since then, little information has been released to the public and no arrests have been made as Bearson’s family and friends await answers and accountability for his murder.

But on Friday, police did what Bearson’s parents do on every anniversary: They pleaded with anyone who knows what happened to come forward – this time with a level of detail not seen in the last decade.

Captain Deric Swenson said in a phone interview Friday that the FBI had compiled a detailed list, posted in a Facebook post, aimed at people familiar with the incident who may have shown:

• Changes in physical appearance, such as changes in hair colour or haircut, growth or removal of facial hair;

• A change in normal routine, which may include missing work, classes or appointments;

• Unexplained injuries (e.g. cuts on the hands, bruises) during the time when Tom was last seen alive;

• A sudden departure from the area after Tom’s death;
