The Bucks County Health Department (BCDH) West Nile Virus Mosquito Control Program will conduct an ultra-low volume (ULV) mosquito control operation on Monday, August 12, to reduce the large population of nuisance mosquitoes and midges that can transmit West Nile Virus in Bristol Township, Falls Township and Tullytown Borough.

Treatment is administered using a truck-mounted device that sprays mosquito habitats in residential areas and parks. The trucks used for spraying are marked with the Bucks County seal logo on the doors. The device dispenses Duet at a rate of 0.75 ounces per acre. This product is designed for rapid and effective control of adult mosquito populations. These application materials have a very low toxicity profile to mammals and have negligible impacts on non-target insects and the environment.

Treatments will take place in the areas of Bristol Township bounded by New Falls Road, Magnolia Drive and Levittown Parkway.

Treatments will take place in the areas of Falls Township bounded by New Falls Road, Penn Valley Road, Bald Cypress Lane, Elderberry Drive, Pinewood Drive and Levittown Parkway.

Treatments will take place in the areas of Tullytown Borough bordering Pinewood Drive.

Certain species of mosquitoes transmit the West Nile virus, which can cause West Nile encephalitis in humans, an infection that can lead to inflammation of the brain. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, all residents of areas where viral activity has been detected are at risk of developing West Nile encephalitis.

Weather conditions and other unexpected events could delay or cancel this spraying. If conditions do not permit an application on August 12, Tuesday evening, August 13 will serve as a backup application date.
