Flight delays are sometimes unavoidable, but some airports and airlines handle it better than others.

If you fly from Bristol Airport in the UK, you are most likely to leave on time as this small airport was proven to be the most punctual airport in 2014.

The airport outperformed some of the hubs at major destinations around the world, with over 94 percent of flights departing within 15 minutes of the scheduled time.

Other British hubs did not fare so well: at London’s busy Heathrow Airport, only 75 percent of flights were on time, and at Gatwick, only just over 60 percent of flights departed on time.

The aviation analysis company OAG has listed the most punctual airports as part of its 2014 punctuality league.

The airports were divided into three categories: small – defined as less than 10 million planned seats per year; medium – between 10 and 20 million planned seats and large – more than 20 million planned seats per year.

The performance of smaller airports regularly exceeds that of larger ones.

Among the major airports, Munich leads the way with 89 percent of departures on time; the Australian hub Sydney also made it into the top 10.

Dubai ranks 14th on the list of major airports with 82 percent and is the only airport in the Middle East to make it into the top twenty.

Airlines were also taken into account in this punctuality report, with Latvian airline airBaltic topping the list with over 94 percent of flights arriving within 15 days of the scheduled arrival time.
