Mother and son decide to surprise their father at the airport with a “priceless” welcome sign

Mother and son decide to surprise their father at the airport with a “priceless” welcome sign

A TikTok video of a father being pranked by his son and wife at the airport has caused fits of laughter on the Internet.

The viral clip was shared by TikTok user @adhdlandia and has garnered over 207,000 views since it was posted on the social media platform on July 27.

The caption of the video reads: “I’m picking up my husband at the airport from a business trip.”

The video, which was shot in Texas, according to a location shared with the post, shows the author’s son, 13-year-old Cameron, sitting in the back seat of a car, holding up a large sign that reads: “Welcome home from prison, daddy. I’m your son.”

TikTok user @adhdlandia said Newsweek about the comment section in the video: “We often play pranks on each other. We have three boys, so things can get silly around here. But we all have a good sense of humor. I’m a middle school teacher, so we try to have our own fun.”

Another text overlay in the video reads: “He was so excited to prank his dad that we made bets on how he would react. But we also wanted to count how many other people we could make smile (or scare)…”

The footage shows several people walking past Cameron laughing, including a man who @adhdlandia believes in the comments section is TikToker/YouTuber Corey Funk.

Upon arrival, the father is seen beaming as he sees the sign, while a spectator directly behind the father, who won the award for “Best Supporting Character in a Prank,” looks very confused.

The father is seen laughing as he hugs his son, while a note is written above the video: “Dad wins ‘good sport at a prank.'”

The viral post comes at a time when air travel continues to increase in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era, and family reunions — like the hilarious one in the above-mentioned video — have been all the more valuable as many families around the world have been separated due to lockdowns and other safety restrictions.

According to a July report by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), total passenger demand increased by 9.1 percent in June compared to the same month in 2023.

“Demand increased across all regions as peak travel season began in the north in June. And with overall capacity growth lagging behind demand, we were able to achieve very strong average load factors (the percentage of available seats an airline sells on its flights) of 85 percent on both domestic and international routes,” IATA Director General Willie Walsh said in the report.

“Demand from North American airlines increased 6.6 percent year-on-year,” the report continues. “Capacity increased 8.6 percent year-on-year and load factor was 88.7 percent, the highest of all regions.”

Travel volumes will reach “record highs” this year: global tourism spending is expected to reach $2 trillion in 2023, according to a December 2023 survey by market research firm Euromonitor International.
