My Brother’s House and Home Depot partner to renovate a home in DeKalb County

The nonprofit organization My Brother’s House recently partnered with the Home Depot Foundation to offer rent-free housing for a home in dire need of renovation.

The project took place in DeKalb County, where the Home Depot Foundation, which has committed to donating $750 million to veterans projects by 2030, partnered with My Brother’s House. Volunteers from the Home Depot Foundation worked on a variety of projects, including improving a shed, improving landscaping and adding additional storage options to the home.

One person emphasized the importance of giving back to the community, stating, “We get involved because we are passionate about volunteering and giving back to our community. Our employees know that our culture and values are about taking care of our neighbors and community, and they are here today to give back in their free time.”

The house, purchased about 12 years ago by the William Peacock Lodge of the DeKalb Fraternal Order of Police and its associated foundation, serves as rent-free housing for public servants whose loved ones are receiving treatment at nearby facilities such as the Shepherd Center, Grady or Emory Hospital. The house is available to families from across the country and has provided shelter to six families in need since 2020.

A representative of the foundation noted: “It is not a palace, nor a five-star hotel, but we want it to be a comfortable place to stay. I think this project will go a long way in making that possible.”

This initiative underscores My Brother’s House and the Home Depot Foundation’s commitment to supporting those who serve the community and the nation and ensuring they have a safe and welcoming place to stay during difficult times.
