A landlord owes a tenant thousands after the tenant complains about his lease.
The lease violated the US city’s rent control ordinance.
A $16,500 settlement was reached in a rent control violation case in Portland, Oregon, CBS affiliate WGME reported.
Portland tenant Bradley Davis had reached a private agreement with his landlord Elizabeth Kane regarding their Sawyer Street apartment.
Davis had sued Kane in the spring after she offered him a lease that violated Portland’s rent control ordinance.
She revoked the lease offer for the property after he complained.
After weeks of court proceedings, Portland’s rent board found that Kane violated retaliation laws by charging too much rent and failing to register her apartment with the city, the news agency reported.
In June, the committee recommended that Kane be fined $8,700 plus $200 per day until the violations are corrected.
