Napa treats: 24-karat gold pyramid, first poke restaurant, cocktail contest and more

The Donum Collection, one of the world’s largest private sculpture collections open to the public, has unveiled “Hyperspace,” an expansive sound and art installation with a heart of gold – literally.

Created by artists Yang Bao and Wa Liu, the 24-carat gold pyramids and organs are the focal points of this interactive sound and sculpture event. The surrounding art reflects light, sound, wind and seasons, creating an ever-changing experience.

The Donum Collection, located on the Napa-Sonoma border, includes 50 monumental works, including outdoor sculptures, on the 200-acre estate.

The installation is open to the public, but visits to the property must be reserved in advance. Donum offers several visit options, including wine, a guided tour and other perks valued at $100 to $299 per person. 24500 Ramal Road, Sonoma, donumestate.com.

Opening of the first Poke restaurant in Napa

Oke Poke, Napa’s first fast-casual poke restaurant, opened Friday, Aug. 9. The franchise has a Chipotle-style ordering model where guests choose whether they want a bowl or burrito, then their base, like rice or noodles, followed by toppings, a protein and then a choice of sauces. The cocktail competition returns to Napa

Top bartenders will compete for the Iron Shaker in a cocktail competition at the Napa Valley Distillery on Thursday, August 22nd at 7 p.m. Kyle Peete, head bartender at the distillery, will select a number of top bartenders from Napa Valley, Sonoma County and the Bay Area to compete. The final round winner will receive the Iron Shaker, while the runner-up will receive $350. Advance tickets are $50 and include an audience contest, light snacks and a DJ. New live music on the weekend

Bazan Cellars and MaCo Vineyards have partnered to offer live music every Saturday from 5-8 p.m. at the Opera House Plaza. Reservations are required; wine and food will be provided. 1000 Main St., Napa. For more information, visit bazancellars.com.

Folklore extended hours

The hip downtown hangout for food, wine, cocktails and vintage vinyl is now open seven days a week with extended hours. Co-founded by a dynamic husband and wife team who own a wine marketing company and have worked in the music industry, the cafe defies description. A stunning wine collection, curated by Steven Ventrello, includes rare wines by the glass and collectible bottles. Guests can choose from small appetizers, charcuterie platters, sandwiches or heartier flatbreads and giant dessert cookies. To all wine lovers

More than 30 Mount Veeder wineries will be represented at the 25th annual Taste of Mount Veeder on Saturday, August 10.
