RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB) – August 9th is National Book Lovers Day, a day to celebrate people’s love of books and reading!
In honor of this day, put down your phone and pick up a good book to read instead!
If reading isn’t your thing, try listening to an audiobook! Simply put earplugs in your ears or listen to one on a speaker as you go about your day.
On National Book Lovers Day, readers can connect with the past or travel to a new world by browsing the shelves of their local library.
Celise Reech-Harper, director of the Rapides Parish Library, said getting a library card is as easy as “signing your name.”
“It’s incredibly easy to get a library card at any of our 10 branches,” Reech-Harper said. “All you have to do is bring your driver’s license or other identification, and if you’re a citizen of Rapides Parish, it’s easy. It’s a wonderful holiday, of course, because we celebrate all the people in our community who love books. Books are the foundation of all knowledge, and what’s more, libraries aren’t just booksellers, we’re opportunistic retailers.”
To celebrate the day, head to your local library, apply for a library card and borrow a book or two!
