National Thrift Shop Day brings pop-up to Colorado Springs | Business

As if every day isn’t a good day for secondhand shopping in Colorado.

Goodwill of Colorado is increasing its performance for National Thrift Shop Day, the annual Saturday commemoration of the nonprofit resale sector and its role in supporting communities and reducing landfill waste.

Goodwill’s annual Chic Boutique opens Friday for two days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Strata Integrated Wellness and Spa at Garden of the Gods Resort and Club, 3314 Mesa Road in Colorado Springs. The pop-up shop will feature a “carefully curated” collection made from donations to the nonprofit, including affordable designer fashions, accessories and home decor, according to a news release from the organization.

Goodwill stores across Colorado are also participating in the campaign: some of the state’s nearly 50 thrift stores have set up their own curated exhibitions in individual stores.

And starting Saturday, shoppers who post an Instagram picture or video wearing their favorite Goodwill ensemble and tag @GoodwillColorado will be entered into a drawing for a free gift card. The Signature Style Challenge, designed to showcase “the unique personal style of the community here in Colorado,” runs through August 25.

Lovers of secondhand couture in the Centennial State should have plenty of choice if they take on the challenge.

According to Goodwill of Colorado, in 2023 the nonprofit recycled or reused over 248 million pounds of items donated to its stores and collection points across the state. Proceeds benefited community education and employment programs such as LIFT IT, a free 14-week training that prepares graduates to pass IT certification exams.
