FARGO, ND – North Dakota State returns to Dacotah Field for the non-conference finale when the Bisons host Saint Ambrose on Friday, Sept. 20. The Bisons and Fighting Bees will square off at 6 p.m. on Family and Homecoming weekend, and the Bisons will have a Senior Night celebration after the game.

The series

The Bison will face Saint Ambrose of the NAIA on Friday for the first time in program history.

Recent history compared to NAIA

NDSU has played another NAIA program this season, winning its opening game at Viterbo 3-1. Friday will be NDSU’s first time hosting an NAIA program since Sept. 23, 2017, when the Bison defeated Jamestown 2-0.

Packaging last week

The Bison are coming off two losses last week. NDSU overcame a two-goal deficit against Weber State on Thursday and tied it before the visitors scored two late goals to take the win. Against Minnesota on Sunday, the Bison hit the crossbar early and forced a couple of key saves, but the Gophers scored a goal in the second half to sneak past the Bison, 1-0.

Kavanagh takes advantage of her opportunities
Devon Kavanagh is a regular on the wing for the first time in her career this season. She seized the opportunity and scored her third goal last week and was the key to both goals for the Bison. Her corner kick deflected and was an own goal for the first Bison goal. She scored from distance a minute later when the junior found the top right corner from over 25 yards out to tie the game against Weber State.

Before this season, the winger had just one assist in her career, but the North Vancouver native has already assisted on three goals this season and scored her first three career goals. Kavanagh’s other two goals were also key game-winners for NDSU.

What’s next?

North Dakota State will hit the road again with the first two of three consecutive road games to open Summit League play. The Bison will travel to Omaha for the league opener on Thursday before continuing their trip south to Kansas City on Sunday to complete the opening weekend of league play.
