New airline coming to Tweed New Haven Airport this winter

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut (WTNH) — Beginning this winter, Breeze Airways will fly from Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN), becoming the airport’s second airline partner.

The low-cost airline will begin operations on December 10 with five weekly nonstop flights to Fort Myers, Florida.

Flights will depart the next day to Orlando and West Palm Beach, then to Vero Beach on December 13, and in February to six more destinations: Charleston, Jacksonville, Norfolk, Raleigh-Durham, Richmond and Sarasota-Bradenton.

These destinations can all be booked now until May 12, 2025.

Breeze officials said they also plan to expand their base operations at Bradley International Airport (BDL) to international flights after completing a certification process before the end of the year.

Tweed New Haven Airport currently serves as the headquarters for Avelo Airlines, another low-cost airline. Avelo also recently announced an expansion and will soon begin serving Bradley International Airport.

HVN said the company received approval from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in December to proceed with plans to modernize the airport by extending the runway and building a “modern, environmentally friendly terminal in the coming years.”

“From day one, our plan envisioned significant growth throughout the Northeast U.S. due to high population density and limited opportunities for nonstop travel,” said Lukas Johnson, chief commercial officer of Breeze Airways, in a statement.
