The New Baltimore Arts and Culture Commission is looking for artists to add a splash of color to another city park.
The city’s “Creating Community” event series continues this fall with “Paint the Tables II” at Maynard “Red” Aurand Memorial Park on Huntley Avenue, near 24 Mile Road. Artists are invited to submit their concepts for artwork to be painted on picnic tables in the park.
The painting work in the park will take place on October 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. In case of rainy weather, the date will be October 13th.
To celebrate the completion of the project, the ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for October 19 at 10:00 a.m.
Submissions should include a color rendering of the proposed table mural created from a template provided. Submissions must be made by 4:00 p.m. on September 11 at the New Baltimore City Hall on Green Street or the Parks and Recreation Office in the Aquatic Center on Ashley Street.
Commission members will select participating artists during a regular meeting on September 12 at 7 p.m. Attendance is not required for consideration. Selected artists will be notified by the commission.
A wide range of paints and supplies are provided. Artists may use any combination or mix of paints, but are limited to the paints provided by the client.
Submissions should stick to themes appropriate for the community area and avoid logos, organizations and slogans.
The project follows the first Paint the Tables event in 2022, which brought a group of 20 artists to Walter and Mary Burke Park with the goal of creating a unique public gathering space celebrating local art and community.
The New Baltimore Arts and Culture Commission was created in 2019 with the goal of enriching the city by making visual, literary, musical, culinary and performing arts important elements of community life. The commission works to support economic development and tourism and to expand citizens’ experience and participation in the arts. The commission’s projects are funded through a mix of grants, sponsorships, crowdfunding and general fund funds.
