FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Anyone who has driven through Kamp Washington in Fairfax City may have noticed some changes at the Westfair Center.
A new sign has been put up for The Alley. According to the company’s website, the restaurant is part of a bubble tea chain with branches all over the world, including in California, New York, Texas and Hawaii.
On July 28, The Alley Fairfax posted a message on its Instagram account (@thealleyfairfax) about its new location at 11017 Main St.
On August 6, a Fairfax city inspector approved the commercial development of The Alley, but there was no indication when the business would open.

Customers at Westfair Center also have another place to enjoy a drink. A sign in the window of the store next to The Alley reads, “Coming Soon: Haraz Coffee House.”
The Yemeni coffee chain, founded in Dearborn, Michigan, has expanded to 10 locations in the U.S. and plans to open 14 more locations, including one in Fairfax, according to the company’s website.

“The country of Yemen is unlike any other place on earth,” the website states. “From its stunning scenery to its history that dates back to the dawn of humanity, Yemen is our family’s home. As first generation immigrants, we wanted to honor our heritage. Yemen is where coffee was invented and later flourished in global trade. Roasting and serving coffee is something that encompasses all people and cultures and brings people together. Our coffee is grown at over 3,000 feet in an altitude in a mountain village called Haraz, where our namesake is from.”
Haraz Coffee specializes in serving authentic Yemeni-style beverages, highlighting the influence that Yemeni coffee has on the culture, its website says.
It is unclear when the new cafe will open. An application to expand the commercial space was submitted to the City of Fairfax on July 22, but has not yet been approved.
