While a deadly conflict between Russia and Ukraine rages abroad, the opening of a new cafe in Roswell offers a sense of comfort to those craving a touch of familiarity.

Lviv Croissants has hundreds of franchise locations in Ukraine, but opened the doors of its first store in the United States over the weekend.

“It’s definitely very difficult when you have to leave everything behind and move to a new country… People feel like this place feels like home,” Oleh Kindzer, development director of Lviv Croissants US, told FOX 5.

The Roswell location features a mix of Eastern European style and American flavors, and its staff is largely made up of Ukrainian refugees.

“We are very excited to bring a Ukrainian brand to America, especially in such difficult times,” added Kindzer.

CEO Brett Larrabee says the idea of opening a Lviv in the USA came to him six years ago during a visit to the country. But it was the war that finally made it a reality.

“One of our successful franchisees … came here to see his son for his wedding, and the next week the war broke out and he was kind of stuck … from then on the stars aligned,” he recalls.

So far, it has been a successful opening week, they say.

“Really, hundreds, if not thousands, of people have passed by in the last few days,” he said.

Many visitors left messages of solidarity on a Post-It board in the entrance area.

“There is a very welcoming atmosphere in the store,” said Kindzer.

It is an atmosphere that for some is an invitation to try something new and for others a moment of feeling at home.

On each Lviv mug you will find a QR code that leads to U4U Kids – a program that connects Ukrainian orphans with American families.
