The iPhone 16 launch date will likely be on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, according to the latest credible report pointing to the timing of Apple’s event. Let’s break it down in case you missed that detail at the bottom BloombergMark Gurman’s Power On newsletter (which I subscribe to and recommend if you’re an Apple fan).

A new Apple Store is opening at the Del Amo Mall in Torrance, California (outside LA, near where I used to live in beautiful Hermosa Beach). The Apple Store will fit perfectly into the sprawling mall. For you, timing is more important than location. According to Gurman’s sources, the store will open on September 16th.

That fits with what we’re hearing about the iPhone 16 release date being Tuesday, September 10, and the actual release date being September 20. Apple, Gurman notes, likes to open new stores around the time it launches new products. For obvious reasons, Apple has also respectfully avoided holding new iPhone launch events on September 11. So it all boils down to September 10.

As usual, we see an increase in new iPhone leaks, namely constantly iPhone 16 Colors including a new Bronze iPhone 16 Pro Color this week.

There was a slim chance that Apple could launch its iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro series the week before (it had previously opted for the first week of September), but it would also clash directly with another competing tech event on the other side of the world, IFA 2024, which is taking place in Berlin (not that that would ever stop Apple).

What is different this year is that the iPhone 16 is coming after Google’s devices – the Made By Google event skipped Apple’s usual event time. Our hands-on Google Pixel 9 review and practical Pixel 9 Pro Fold review mention that the $799 and $1,799 phones will launch on September 4, 2024.

Our practical Google Pixel Watch 3 in review says the 45mm and 41mm smartwatch will be released on September 10th – the same release date as the launch of the iPhone 16 (and probably Apple Watch 10), although the expected Loss of pulse detection The smartwatch function is still subject to FDA approval.

More important than the initial launch of the Pixel hardware is that Google’s AI is better than any other smartphone AI I have tested including Apple’s iOS 18.1 beta with Apple Intelligence on my iPhone 15 Pro Max and Galaxy AI on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. Google’s Gemini Nano features are ready to use on day one, while the Apple Intelligence Compatibility List is also much narrower.
