New initiative to place AEDs in patrol cars and public places in Cullman County

The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) announced the purchase of several automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

The sheriff’s office said the purchase was made in conjunction with the Cullman County Commission as an investment in the lives of the county’s citizens.

Sheriff Matt Gentry purchased 80 of the devices from Cardiac Solutions, a Birmingham-based company.

The sheriff’s office said the purchase will allow every patrol officer and school police officer to carry the equipment in their vehicle. The devices will also be distributed throughout the sheriff’s office and jail.

The sheriff’s office said the remaining machines will be placed in senior centers throughout Cullman County. Cardiac Solutions will provide training for those using the machines.

Cardiac Solutions is the only company that can offer remote camera monitoring 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

“The safety of the citizens of Cullman County has always been the top priority of the Sheriff’s Office. Keeping people alive is obviously an important part of that. Our deputies are the first responders; they are the first responders on the scene of accidents, assaults, and other types of injury incidents. It is their job to secure the scene and keep everyone alive until medical personnel arrive. I want to personally thank the Cullman County Commission for working with us and helping us make this possible. These AEDs are a wonderful tool that will save lives and hopefully give our citizens a little more peace of mind,” said Sheriff Gentry.

“The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to safety and preparedness is commendable. Equipping vehicles and public spaces with AEDs and remote AED camera monitoring is a critical step in improving survival rates in cardiac emergencies. We are proud to partner with Sheriff Gentry and the Cullman County Commissioners on this life-saving endeavor,” said Jon Seale, CEO of Cardiac Solutions.

The sheriff’s office said the AEDs are currently at the CCSO and will be distributed to officers once they have received the necessary training.
