A Korean barbecue joint in downtown Sarasota, shared by another Asian restaurant in the area, has joined the list of local restaurants that have recently opened.

Bulgogi House is now open at 1472 Main St. in the former Kennedy Studios space, said restaurant manager Zhenhu Piao. The restaurant’s owners include John Zhao, who also owns Yummy House China Bistro, which has locations on South Tamiami Trail in Sarasota, as well as in Tampa, Gainesville and Ocala.

Bulgogi House offers an à la carte menu of chef-prepared dishes—including pork shoulder or belly, beef bulgogi (thin, marinated slices of meat) or LA galbi (ribs), and chicken breast—that includes a set of small sides and a bowl of rice. However, most dishes are served in traditional Korean barbecue style, where customers grill the dishes themselves on tableside grills.

Tableside grill options include all-you-can-eat, $35.99 for the regular and $45.99 for the premium version with additional menu options, with a two-hour time limit and sides like soybean soup, steamed egg and kimchi included. (Be careful not to over-order, though, as customers are charged for every pound of uneaten meat and takeout boxes are not provided with all-you-can-eat orders.) Customers can also order individual plates for tableside grilling, as well as sides.

The restaurant is still waiting for its beer and wine license, Piao said, and will then offer soju (a Korean alcoholic drink typically made from rice or another grain) and Korean beers. The space seats about 72, all indoors at grill tables, Piao said.

Current hours for Bulgogi House are Sunday through Thursday 12:00pm-3:00pm lunch, 4:30pm-10:00pm dinner and Friday and Saturday 12:00pm-3:00pm lunch, 4:30pm-11:00pm dinner. For more information, call 941-559-5678 or visit bulgogihousefl.com.
