New paid parking policy in an apartment complex frustrates residents

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Residents of a Frayser apartment complex are having parking problems due to a new rule from their management.

Driving around Bayou Square Apartments, you’ll see lots of signs telling people that visitors have to pay for parking. It’s a new rule that one local resident isn’t too happy about.

“I’ve lived here for years and I’ve never heard of having to pay for parking with guests because this is where I live and it’s not like this is Beale Street,” he said.

Clicking on the QR code will take you to a website where you can pay $5 for two hours or $15 for a whole day. While that may not sound like much, when family comes to visit, it can add up.

“What if my grandmother comes to town and wants to stay for a few days? Then I have to pay for her parking for a few nights,” said one resident.

One woman said she visits her mother every day and has no plans to pay for parking, feeling like it’s just a rip-off.

She stressed that low-income people lived there and that the gate was not working. She did not understand why it was installed.

“I mean, whether it’s low-income people or anyone else, it’s going to affect all of us. I’m not used to paying for parking just to see my mom,” she said.

Everyone is confused and says that this is neither the city center nor a very busy area and therefore does not understand why this is necessary.
