New passenger record at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport – Airport World

Maryland Governor Wes Moore today announced that Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport experienced record-breaking passenger traffic in June 2024.

According to Maryland Department of Transportation records, 2,603,847 commercial passengers flew through the airport, setting a new monthly passenger record and an 11% increase over June 2023.

The 2024 fiscal year was also a new record year for BWI Marshall Airport, with just over 27 million passengers.

“The continued success of Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport supports our efforts to make Maryland more competitive by boosting tourism, attracting businesses, promoting economic growth and creating jobs throughout our state,” Moore said.

“This record-breaking achievement underscores our strength and our administration remains committed to improving convenient and efficient airport travel that will continue to position Maryland as a gateway to the nation and the world.”

BWI Marshall Airport generates $11.3 billion in total revenue. The airport and its visitors create and support more than 107,000 jobs throughout Maryland and the region. The airport offers approximately 300 nonstop departures daily to more than 80 domestic and international destinations, making it the busiest airport in the Capital Region.

“These new records reflect the strong demand for air travel and the resilience of the aviation industry,” said Ricky Smith, general manager and CEO of BWI Marshall Airport.

“Our airport has a growing route network and growth in private and business travel.”

BWI Marshall is currently undertaking several significant, high-profile capital projects that will provide new services and amenities to passengers while also providing critical infrastructure to support airline partners.

The work includes the Concourse A/B Connector and Baggage Handling System – the largest capital project in the airport’s history – which will create a direct connection between Concourses A and B, a new, sophisticated baggage handling system, expanded seating areas at the passenger gates, new toilets and additional catering and retail space.
