New restaurant opens its doors in Bucksport

BUCKSPORT, Maine (WABI) – My Buddy’s Place in downtown Bucksport is officially open.

“My Buddy’s Place is a local restaurant where I made sure everyone felt comfortable. It’s a great place to get a great meal and hopefully have a great conversation with a local or someone from out of town,” said owner Dustin Diolio.

The new restaurant opened about a month ago and is trying to make its mark on the community with its unique menu.

“It’s Maine classics with a Sicilian twist, so there’s something for everyone. I make fresh pasta by hand, so it’s rolled and cut to order after 4 p.m., and I bake fresh bread. I also have red snapper and chicken sliders on the menu,” Diolio said.

This spot is a favorite in Bucksport. It used to be Friar’s Brewhouse and Tap Room. The new owner is keeping some of that heritage alive in his own business.

“It was a very special place. I ate here a few times. I was very lucky to meet Brother Don and I know I have big shoes to fill. We have a whoopie pie stout on tap in his honor,” Diolio said.

There is also a coffee bar and even something for four-legged friends.

“We like to focus on the dog. As you and your furry friend walk by, you can grab a bone at the door so he gets his treat too,” Diolio described.

Diolio hopes his business will connect with the community and contribute to the growth of Bucksport.

“I really hope to be able to work with the local animal shelter and have some beers for the pups. I know they need a new shelter. I also really hope to work with the kids in the community. We’ll have hot chocolate and cookies. I’d love to host a day or evening of cribbage. I think it’s really important to get involved,” Diolio said.
