New seafood restaurant brings “A Taste of Cajun” to DeSoto

New seafood restaurant brings “A Taste of Cajun” to DeSoto

Addison hits the jackpot with the opening of San Martín Bakery & Restaurant, known for its breads and pastries, which will open its long-awaited second location in the DFW area at 5407 Belt Line Rd., officially in Dallas.

According to a press release, the new bakery will open on Thursday, August 22. The opening will take place in the Work Shop Center, in the space that previously housed Coal Vines Pizza.

This is only the second U.S. location for this international, family-run chain, which was originally founded by Andrés Castillo in 1974 as a small neighborhood bakery in Guatemala City. Since then, the company has grown into a full-service bakery and restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are 73 locations in Guatemala and El Salvador, including two in the U.S., both of which are, fortunately, in DFW.

The first Dallas location opened in Uptown in 2019 under the supervision of Andrés’ son Gabriel Castillo, who discovered Dallas after studying at SMU. The Uptown location has thrived despite the lack of a storefront on McKinney Avenue and despite the pandemic – thanks in no small part to the excellent quality of its bread, pastries, coffee, and lunch and dinner items.

The new San Martín Addison offers freshly baked goods including specialty breads, sweet and savory pastries, and cakes to suit every taste. They stay on top of the latest trends and currently offer the trendy “Supreme” style croissants, which look like a wheel and are usually covered in icing.

For their in-house coffee program, they source beans from the best farms in Guatemala and use a special blend for all coffee drinks and also for the beans for sale.

What the press release doesn’t mention is how affordable the prices are: plain croissants are $2, meat empanadas are $2.45.

In addition to the bakery and coffee offerings, the restaurant houses a full-service restaurant with an extensive breakfast, lunch and dinner menu, including:

  • Chiliaquiles with Cochinita Pibil – eggs served on tortilla chips, mozzarella cheese, cream, onions, cilantro and cochinita pibil (pork); chilaquiles with steak or chicken are also available
  • Salvadoreño – Corn tortillas filled with cheese, topped with two fried eggs and ranchera sauce, served with refried beans, plantains and curtido (coleslaw)
  • Motuleño – Eggs on a tostada with refried beans and plantains, topped with ranchera chipotle sauce, ham, chorizo, peas, bacon and melted cheese
  • Chivito Uruguayo – Sliced fillet, ham, bacon, white cheddar, tomato, lettuce and a touch of chimichurri, served on a large egg bread
  • Centenaria Burger – bacon, Monterey Jack cheese, tomatoes, lettuce and red onions, garnished with homemade Ron Zacapa Centenario glaze
  • Pan Dulce – Traditional Pan Dulce (sweet bread) covered with a crown of hardened sugar

You will find yourself in a 600 square meter space that combines a modern interior with elements of Guatemalan culture and is inspired by Guatemala’s rich textile and handicraft tradition.

“We are excited to finally bring San Martín to Addison and expand our presence in the vibrant Dallas-Fort Worth market,” says Santiago Castillo of San Martín. “We have been in the Uptown area for 6 years and have loved connecting with our neighbors. As DFW continues to expand and grow rapidly, we are excited to also grow and serve a new part of the city with a second location. We know Addison is a hybrid community for residents and professionals, and we welcome the opportunity for San Martín to become a destination for all.”

Surrounded by a dynamic business community, this location is strategically located at the intersection of major highways and thoroughfares, providing a landing spot for commuters from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and a popular neighborhood for Addison residents.

In addition to full restaurant service and a bakery and market with shopping options, San Martín Addison offers corporate lunches, office catering and pre-order pickup.
