New store in Johnson County offers variety of Asian delicacies

New store in Johnson County offers variety of Asian delicacies

Bing and Tommy Tang started producing Freezing Moo rolled ice cream in late 2016.

They sold the concept a few years later after it expanded into Johnson County and Wichita. Now they hope Stickman — a shop selling dumplings, “stick” treats and boba — will be an even bigger success.

Stickman opened quietly Thursday at 9563 Nall Ave. in an old Papa Murphy’s store. Bing hopes it will be the first of many.

“We told (investors), ‘Let’s take it easy,'” he said. “Open the first one and see how it goes.”

Stickman sells milk tea with various boba flavors: brown sugar, strawberry, lychee, and more. The company also offers dumplings in vanilla custard and red bean flavors.

But the main attraction and the namesake of the shop are the “stick” candies that are popular in Asia. They are called Tanghulu, or candied fruits on a skewer. Flavors include strawberry, blueberry and orange.

(None of these are available at the moment. They’re still working out the details, Bing said.)

Stickman also offers matcha, brown sugar coffee, oolong tea, macarons, ice cream and other treats.

Currently, Stickman is open on a limited afternoon schedule: 2-6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 2-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The store may extend its hours at some point, but Bing said he wants the team to settle in before opening throughout the day.

Meanwhile, Bing’s previous concept, Freezing Moo, is no longer open in the Kansas City area.

There were once locations in downtown Leawood at 4535 W. 119th St., 11885 W. 95th St. in Overland Park, 20140 W. 153rd St. in Olathe, 699 NW Blue Parkway in Lee’s Summit and 13123 State Line Road.

The last location in the area closed last year. One is still open in Wichita.
