New York Giants place WR Isaiah McKenzie and LB Matthew Adams on the injured list

The New York Giants reduced their roster to 53 players on Tuesday and released 14 players – 11 of them immediately and three due to injuries. They also terminated the contracts of nine veterans.

They have placed two players on the injured list (IR) – wide receiver/returner Isaiah McKenzie (foot) and linebacker Matt Adams (quad).

The move ends McKenzie’s season, but Adams should return.

More moves are expected Wednesday after the waiver deadline expires at 12:00 p.m. EDT. The Giants are priority No. 6 on all waiver claims.

“The squad is still in flux,” said Daboll. “There are many things that are currently being discussed. But this is, so to speak, the original 53-man squad.”

Daboll said the Giants could be looking for another returner with McKenzie gone and Gunner Olszewski still dealing with a groin injury, but declined to go into detail.

“There could be more changes,” added Daboll. “But that can’t be. That’s why the next few days will be important. But for now, these are the original players we’ve kept, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be any changes. Arrivals, departures, injuries, all those things.”

General manager Joe Schoen is not the type to sit idle, especially when such a crucial waiver spot is involved. They will also be trying to assemble their 16-man practice squad in the next few days.
