New York Jets DE Jermaine Johnson injured in 24-17 win

NASHVILLE – New York Jets defensive end Jermaine Johnson was carted off the field in the third quarter of his team’s 24-17 win over the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium on Sunday with a potentially serious injury to his right Achilles tendon.

If Johnson’s injury persists, the Jets will come under pressure to clarify the contract situation with the out-of-play Haason Reddick.

Johnson, who made the Pro Bowl last season as an injured reserve, went down on a pass rush against Will Levis in what appeared to be a non-contact injury. The cart came out immediately. Johnson’s teammates gathered around him as the former first-round pick buried his head in his hands. He put a towel over his head and then gave a thumbs up as he was carried off the field.

Linebacker CJ Mosley left the game in the second quarter with a toe injury to his right foot. He was taken to the locker room and did not return.

The Jets’ plan was to pair Johnson and Reddick as their bookend pass rushers, but Reddick — who was acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles on March 29 — has not reported because he is unhappy with his contract. If Johnson is out for the season, they would rely on Will McDonald and Micheal Clemons as their top defensive ends, both of whom were slated to be backups.

The Jets also played without cornerback DJ Reed (knee), who was left off the squad at short notice.
