New York Magazine’s top Washington correspondent Olivia Nuzzi has taken a leave of absence after revealing that she recently entered into a romantic relationship with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the magazine reported Thursday.

According to Oliver Darcy, who first reported the news, the magazine only recently learned of the relationship, before Nuzzi made it public.

“Recently, our Washington correspondent Olivia Nuzzi admitted to the magazine’s editors that while covering the 2024 election, she entered into a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 election. This is a violation of the magazine’s standards regarding conflicts of interest and disclosures,” a spokesperson for the magazine said in a statement to Darcy.

“Had the magazine been aware of this relationship, she would not have continued to cover the presidential campaign. An internal review of her published work has found no inaccuracies or evidence of bias. She is currently on leave from the magazine, and the magazine is conducting a more thorough third-party review. We regret this offense to our readers,” the statement continued.

It is unclear how long their affair lasted, but Darcy reports that “a person close to Nuzzi” insists that the affair did not begin until after the publication of her Kennedy profile in November 2023. That person also insists that Kennedy did not serve as a source for Nuzzi’s coverage of the 2024 presidential election.

Darcy also reports that Kennedy “bragged” about the relationship.

Kennedy has been married to “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actress Cheryl Hines since 2014. Nuzzi and Politico’s chief Washington correspondent Ryan Lizza announced their engagement in September 2023.

Nuzzi has not commented publicly on the matter. Representatives for Kennedy did not immediately respond to a request for comment from TheWrap. Hines could not be reached for comment.
