New York ranks 9th on the list of “best places to live” in 2024

To best represent the most livable states, 51 “key quality of life indicators” were used to compare the 50 states, including factors such as quality of life, affordability, safety and education.

With an overall score of 58.17, New York ranks 9th in quality of life, 5th in safety, and 18th in education and health.

Not surprisingly, New York ranked 47th in affordability and last in home ownership. And perhaps not surprisingly, New York tied with California, Texas, and Florida for first place in number of restaurants per capita.

Other neighboring states include New Jersey in third place with 59.65 and Pennsylvania in seventh place with 58.32.

Connecticut came in at number 22. A full breakdown of the rankings and indicators considered can be found here.
