NFL News Updates: Rams’ Puka Nacua injured against Lions; Browns’ David Njoku ‘week to week’

With two exceptions, all 32 NFL teams have begun their 2024 seasons, and the first week’s results are in.

From a few major injuries that could affect the Los Angeles Rams and Cleveland Browns, as well as just about every fantasy league out there, to what happens next after the Tyreek Hill incident in Miami and the quarterback situation in Pittsburgh, it’s sure to be a busy week off the field.

Browns tight end David Njoku is being used “week to week,” according to head coach Kevin Stefanski. Njoku sustained the injury in their devastating loss to Dallas. He was examined on Monday and it remains to be seen if he will be available for the Week 2 game against the Jaguars.

Puka Nacua caught four balls for 35 yards before leaving the Rams in their loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday night. He was carried to the sideline after the second quarter and did not return.

After Justin Fields started Week 1 due to a calf injury suffered by Russell Wilson late in training camp, the Steelers enter Week 2 with a question at the quarterback position following an 18-10 win in Atlanta in which Fields threw for 156 yards.

    Addison left Minnesota’s 28-6 victory over the Giants in the third quarter.

  • Raiders DE Tyree Wilson out with knee sprain

    Wilson was inactive on Sunday against the Chargers. He played in 17 games last season and recorded 29 tackles and 3.5 sacks.

  • Jaguars lose CB Tyson Campbell due to thigh injury

    Campbell, who signed a four-year contract in July, made two solo tackles in Sunday’s 20-17 loss to the Dolphins.

  • Bears rookie WR Rome Odunze has to undergo an MRI scan of his knee

    Odunze had one catch for 11 yards during Chicago’s 24-17 win over the Titans.

  • David Njoku is considered “week to week”

    Stefanski did not give a specific timetable for how long the tight end would be out. The Browns face the Jaguars in Week 2.

  • More details on Tyreek Hill’s arrest outside Hard Rock Stadium

    According to sources, Tyreek Hill received two tickets as a result of his traffic stop on Sunday: reckless driving and failure to wear a seatbelt. Calais Campbell, who was told by police after the game that he was briefly handcuffed for “disobeying a direct order,” ultimately received no tickets. Miami-Dade police told me this morning that it remains an internal investigation and cannot yet provide details on what led to the reckless driving ticket or why Hill was handcuffed facedown on the ground. One of the officers on scene is still handling administrative duties.

    Hill was handcuffed outside Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium just hours before kickoff of the Dolphins’ game against Jacksonville. Hill was eventually released and played in Miami’s 20-17 victory.

    Hill told reporters after Sunday’s game that he had “no idea” why he was held down. “It wasn’t disrespectful because my mother didn’t raise me that way. I didn’t curse,” he said. “I’m still trying to figure it out.”

  • The Steelers need a new punter/holder as Cameron Johnston is out for the year

  • Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson is suffering from an MCL sprain from week to week.

    Ferguson injured his knee while attempting to jump over a Browns player during the Cowboys’ 33-17 win on Sunday. The tight end caught three balls for 15 yards before leaving the game.

    ESPN’s Todd Archer reports that Ferguson could be available in Week 2 against the Saints.

  • Giants, Daniel Jones hears boos on and off the field.

    It was a forgettable Opening Day at MetLife Stadium for the Giants during their 28-6 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

    The boos were loud and some players, like defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence, didn’t like it.

    “I don’t respect that, honestly,” Lawrence said. “I understand they want their team to win. It’s just a rough patch. It is what it is.”

    Some fans even booed Daniel Jones as he left the stadium after his performance, in which he completed 22 of 42 passes for 186 yards and two interceptions.

  • Panthers may have to do without DL Derrick Brown for the rest of the season

    Brown, 26, a 2023 Pro Bowler, had 103 tackles and two sacks last season and recorded three tackles in Sunday’s loss to the Saints.

  • No end to Haason Reddick’s departure in sight

    “I maintain that we will welcome him with open arms when he gets here,” Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Saturday. “We will love him, he will be a part of this football team and help us win a lot of games. He has to sort out the financial issues and that is none of my business.”
