NFL quarterback reveals why former Ohio State Buckeyes star is struggling

Former Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. was a phenomenon in college, but his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals didn’t get off to a great start.

In his NFL regular season debut, Harrison recorded just one catch for four yards and was targeted only three times.

Considering most of them expected Harrison to be the Cardinals’ best receiver from the start, his quiet first week was certainly surprising.

However, Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray revealed why Harrison hasn’t had a particularly productive start to the season.

“Obviously, it was my first game with Marv,” Murray said on the Cardinals’ official YouTube account. “We didn’t get a lot of preseason play. We didn’t get any. So we have to go out there and prove we’re capable of doing this.”

Arizona lost 34-28 to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday. During the game, Murray wide receiver Greg Dortch caught six balls. In addition, tight end Trey McBride, running backs James Conner and Emari Demercado, and tight end Elijah Higgins caught more balls than Harrison.

Harrison was widely considered the best wide receiver in the 2024 NFL Draft and was selected fourth overall by the Cardinals, so giving him time is obviously important.

The 22-year-old spent three seasons at Ohio State, arriving in 2021 and breaking out in his sophomore season with 77 pass catches for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns. In 2023, he then caught 67 balls for 1,211 yards and 14 scores.
