The NFL Network’s GameDay Morning team doesn’t have a good feeling about the Detroit Lions in their Week 1 opener against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football.

Among them was Steve Mariucci, the former Lions coach and Upper Peninsula native of Iron Mountain.

Nor were longtime “GameDay” host Rich Eisen (a Michigan alumnus), colorful analyst Kyle Brandt or analyst Gerald McCoy, a six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle in the last decade. They all picked the Rams, who were 4½-point underdogs at Ford Field in Detroit. (Want to bet on the NFL? Check out the sports betting promos.)

The Lions’ only pick came from Hall of Famer quarterback Kurt Warner, who helped the Rams to two Super Bowl appearances, including the 1999 championship.

“Kurt got kind of lucky and was able to lead the Lions at home by himself tonight,” said Eisen as the graphic with the tips for Week 1 appeared on the screen for the last time shortly before 1 p.m.

SHAWN WINDSOR: This Detroit Lions opening game was a moment that lasted for decades

Warner responded to a fan’s tweet asking him why he could choose the Lions.

Warner’s response: “Haha – because I only pick who I think will win, not who I want to – and I think it will be a great game and would like to see the Rams win!”

The Rams’ picks on GameDay were different from those of ESPN’s panel of experts: 10 out of 11 players predicted a Lions win in a repeat of their thrilling 24-23 wildcard playoff victory in the same building eight months ago.

And we at the Detroit Free Press don’t agree on Sunday’s winner…but someone gave the Lions the nod as the first Lombardi Trophy winners. Wouldn’t that be something?!
