The Colts beat the Bears 21-16 to earn Indianapolis’ first win of the year. While QB Anthony Richardson had a bad day, here are two more takeaways from Sunday.

The Colts dominate the trenches

After allowing 474 rushing yards in their first two games — the most the Colts have allowed in the first two games of a season since 1978 — they made life difficult for the Bears on the ground. Chicago managed just 63 rushing yards on 28 attempts (2.3 yards per carry) and failed to take advantage of the absence of Colts star defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, who was placed on the injured list last week with a sprained right ankle.

On the other hand, Colts running back Jonathan Taylor once again shone with 135 all-purpose yards (110 rushing and 25 receiving). The 2021 league rushing champion scored a 29-yard touchdown in the second quarter. He also tore open the Bears defense with a 25-yard reception and a 21-yard run on back-to-back plays in the third quarter, setting up a 1-yard touchdown run by backup Trey Sermon that gave Indianapolis a 14-3 lead heading into the final quarter.

Jaylon Jones gets greedy

Jaylon Jones didn’t have an interception in the first 19 games of his NFL career. But he made one of two on Sunday to help the Colts to their first win of the year. Jones intercepted a pass from Bears quarterback Caleb Williams near the sideline in the second quarter. Then he got greedy and intercepted Williams again when the No. 1 pick tried to force a pass to Rome Odunze in the third quarter. After the ball bounced out of Odunze’s hands, Jones snatched it with one hand before stepping out of bounds with both feet.

Colts rookie defensive end Laiatu Latu capped it off with a strip sack of Williams in the fourth quarter. Defensive tackle Grover Stewart recovered the fumble and four plays later Taylor scored on a 1-yard run to give the Colts a 21-9 lead.
