Nico Gonzalez: “Juventus plays with a smile on their faces”

Nico Gonzalez scored on his Champions League debut and said Thiago Motta wanted them to “play with a smile on their faces” after their 3-1 win over PSV Eindhoven.

The Bianconeri started their European adventure at the Allianz Juventus Stadium with goals from Kenan Yildiz, Weston McKennie and Nico Gonzalez.

“I’m happy, we put in a great performance. The team played well, maybe we could have done more in the second half, but the result is positive,” Nico Gonzalez told Sky Sport Italia.

Nico Gonzalez is fascinated by new ideas for Juventus

Thiago Motta has adopted a very different tactical approach to that of Max Allegri’s team, benefiting from the fact that he had four new signings in the starting eleven tonight, including the Argentine international.

“There are very clear ideas, we also have the freedom to do what we can. We always play with a smile, we have to enjoy our football and keep going like this.”

Kenan Yildiz was clearly having fun and scored a goal worthy of his hero Alessandro Del Piero with his shot into the top corner.

“I’m happy for him, he deserves it because he’s a good boy and played so well today.”

However, there were also two negative aspects to the evening, as Juventus conceded their first goal of the season in the final phase.

Since this is one big Champions League table, goal difference could well be the deciding factor in the ranking at the end of this new, extended phase.

The other negative aspect is that Dusan Vlahovic once again failed to score a goal and he remains quite frustrated.

“I’m disappointed because he deserved a goal, but he just needs to relax. I know he lives to score goals. He didn’t score today, but he needs to keep trying,” concluded Nico Gonzalez.
