Nio (NYSE: NIO) today unveiled its infrastructure progress and plans at its Power Up 2024 event in Wuhan, central China’s Hubei province.

The electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer unveiled its “Power Up Counties” program, with the goal of expanding its charging network across all county administrative regions in China by June 30, 2025.

Nio’s goal is for its network of battery swapping stations to cover all 2,300-plus counties in 27 provincial-level administrative regions by December 31, 2025.

Nio currently has 2,480 battery swapping stations, 2,322 supercharger stations with 10,577 charging stations and 1,627 destination charging stations with 12,432 charging stations in China.

Nio announced at the Nio Day 2023 event late last year that the company intends to set up 1,000 battery swapping stations in China in 2024.

However, William Li, Nio’s founder, chairman and CEO, hinted last month that this goal could be delayed.

Nio today announced that its powertrain arm Nio Power will build a new 20,000 square meter battery swap station manufacturing facility in Wuhan, with the goal of achieving an annual capacity of more than 1,000 battery swap stations.

The company owns two other factories for assembling battery swapping stations in Kunshan (Jiangsu Province) and Hefei (Anhui Province).

Nio announces Power Up Partners, seeking partners to jointly build charging and battery swapping facilities to accelerate infrastructure development.

The first partners have signed up for Nio’s Power Up Partners program.

Nio introduces portable car-to-car charger with up to 40 kW, a maximum output voltage of 1,000 V and a conversion efficiency of 95 percent.

Nio Power will build a new battery swapping station production center in Wuhan with an area of ​​20,000 square meters. The targeted production capacity for battery swapping stations is over 1,000 units per year.

Nio Power’s new headquarters is located in the Wuhan Optical Valley Digital Economy Industrial Park.

On August 20, the first 4th generation Nio charging and battery swapping station went online in Wuhan. To date, Nio Power has 89 battery swapping stations and 882 public charging stations in Hubei Province.
