No, Carole King will not be playing in Central Park this October

Carole Koenig once performed a groundbreaking concert in New York’s famous Central Park, but she has no plans to repeat that performance, even though you may have seen it online.

Apparently, someone created an event on Facebook claiming that the two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Famer would be hosting a show at the park on October 16th – and that information spread elsewhere. It was apparently shared so widely that King’s team was forced to debunk the rumor on Instagram.

“We were recently made aware of a fake event circulating online that purports to feature a live performance by Carole King,” the statement on King’s account reads. “Please note that this event is not genuine and is not endorsed by Carole King or the management team.”

Attentive fans may have noticed that there was something wrong with the event listing, which states that the concert will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. CDT. New York is, of course, in the Eastern time zone, not the Central time zone.

King’s legendary homecoming concert in Central Park in 1973 attracted an estimated 100,000 fans. It was honored in the 2023 documentary Back home: Carole King in Central Park.
