Noeline Hoffman releases the new songs “Purple Gas” and “Lightning In July (Prairie Fire)”: Listen

Canadian country singer Noeline Hofmann is already a favorite of Zach Bryan. You may remember that he and Hofmann sang a beautiful duet called “Purple Gas” (originally written by Hofmann) on Bryan’s most recent project. The great American bar sceneToday, Hofmann released her solo version of the acoustic ballad as well as an exciting song with violin and piano accompaniment called “Lightning In July (Prairie Fire).”

“‘Purple Gas’ was inspired by my childhood in rural southern Alberta, Canada, and my time on a cattle ranch in western Manitoba,” says Hofmann. “The imagery comes from the experiences I had in those areas. It’s a song about resilience and the rural attitude towards hardships that are beyond one’s control.”

Of “Lightning In July,” she adds, “It’s a cheeky self-introduction – a playful, attitude-driven fight song that abides by the rules that you can’t follow, that won’t stop, that doesn’t do anything, that doesn’t do anything, that doesn’t do anything. It’s inspired by the feeling of walking around with a loaded gun – so to speak – and being underestimated or overlooked. I wrote it with the intention of adding a fun traditional country barnburner to the pre-tour setlist.”
