Normandy Park City Manager’s Report for the Week Ending August 9, 2024

The update of the city’s 2024 comprehensive plan is moving forward

Communities in growth management planning areas in Washington state continue their work to update the 2024 Comprehensive Plan, called the Periodic Update, and for Normandy Park Normandy Park 2044. This comprehensive update was an opportunity for residents, businesses and other stakeholders to affirm their long-term planning efforts in their comprehensive plans. Since the last Normandy Park Comprehensive Plan update in 2016, City Council has adopted changes including new vision statements and an economic development element. Additionally, stormwater management planning, the Coastal Management Plan (SMP) and Critical Area Ordinance (CAO) regulatory updates were incorporated into the plan for reference.

The Normandy Park 2044 plan amendments were based on an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach that first identified Normandy Park’s assets and strengths. This resulted in proposed changes to all chapter elements of the comprehensive plan. The proposed changes address elements such as housing, urban growth assets, capital investment planning requirements, environmental considerations related to sea level rise, and continued stormwater management, transportation, and economic development measures to improve the local business climate.

The City Council will consider these proposed changes on August 13.th session, and the periodic update will be completed when it is adopted later this year by Ordinance No. 1066. This is an important document, so I recommend that you use this link and read each newly drafted chapter in Normandy Park 2044. If you have any questions after your review, please contact me or Community Development Director Nicholas Matz.
