North Dakota State 52-3 Tennessee State (September 7, 2024) Match Report

FARGO, N.D. – Cam Miller threw for 181 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another 43 yards and a touchdown as North Dakota State defeated Tennessee State 52-3 in its first home game Saturday.

The Bison rebounded from a 31-26 loss at Colorado to open the season after leading at halftime by scoring the game’s first 52 points and allowing the Tigers only a 19-yard field goal with five minutes left.

Miller opened the scoring by running 24 yards to a keeper midway through the first quarter and then four minutes later, he sprinted 14 yards to Bryce Lane to make it 14-0. CharMar Brown capped a short drive with a 3-yard run and Miller added a 12-yard pass to John Gores and a 6-yard pass to Lance in the final minute of the first half to make it 35-0.

Cole Payton threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Mekhi Collins early in the fourth quarter and Nathan Hayes capped it off with a 51-yard run.

Miller completed 14 of 18 passes and no interceptions. Payton completed 3 of 5 passes for 29 yards and a touchdown with a pick. Hayes had just one run and his 51 yards led the Bison. Lance had seven catches for 106 yards and two touchdowns.

Tennessee State was only able to gain 158 yards on offense led by Draylen Ellis, who completed 17 of 25 passes for 128 yards and did not record a turnover.
