North Liberty raises over .4 million to build an event center in Centennial Park

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – North Liberty has raised more than $2.4 million for its Next Stage campaign and has set a final goal of $3.5 million.

The city is using campaign funds to build a new event center, amphitheater and wading pool in Centennial Park.

The city estimates that the total cost of the project will be around $16 million.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place two months ago, and the city is confident that the momentum will continue.

“The completed Centennial Park will truly have an impact for generations to come,” said Jillian Miller, North Liberty’s deputy director of public relations.

Two months after construction began and after more than two-thirds of the capital campaign’s goal has been reached, city officials say the public shares their enthusiasm.

“We didn’t know what to expect, but we were just overwhelmed and thrilled by the support, not only from individual donors giving $5,000 or $50,000, but from corporations pledging $20,000, $25,000 or even $100,000,” Miller said.

North Liberty hopes the new event center can become a popular venue for meetings, weddings and the city’s major events such as blues and BBQ.

According to North Liberty’s website, Think Iowa City estimates that the project will generate over $11.5 million in economic revenue for the community each year.

“The economic impact of more people wanting to work, live, play and visit here will also impact other businesses across the county,” Miller said.

The event center is scheduled to open in November 2025, but North Liberty is already accepting reservations and planning a year-round program.
