As in the siege of Tobruk in 1941, Turkey appears to have prevailed against Italy in the battle for restaurant space in the northern old town.

Alexandria Living Magazine reported that L’Italiano Vero, an Italian restaurant originally slated to move into Sunday in Saigon’s former location at 682 N. St. Asaph Street, will now be called Narman Restaurant and will offer Turkish cuisine. Sunday in Saigon closed last November.

“Nestled in the bustling streets of Alexandria, Virginia, NARMAN invites you on a culinary journey to the crossroads of Europe and Asia,” the restaurant’s website states. “Our restaurant is more than just a dining establishment; it is a gateway to the rich flavors and warm hospitality of Turkey.”

The restaurant proudly describes itself as a dog-friendly cafe.

“As soon as you walk through our doors, you will be transported to the bustling bazaars of Istanbul and the sun-drenched shores of the Mediterranean,” the website says.
