NYPD catches fugitive thieves with drone – NBC New York

A violent home invasion in Queens – in which a family of eight was terrorized by a trio of attackers – came to an abrupt end after New York police arrested the fleeing men with a drone.

The nightmare began around 2:30 a.m. Saturday in Douglaston, where police say the three men forced their way into the family’s home. There were three adults and five children in the house at the time.

According to police, the thieves were armed with two hammers and a pistol. Investigators believe they were specifically hunting for cash.

A neighbor observed the police operation after waking up to screams coming from the broken-in house.

“I heard the baby crying and that alarmed me,” the woman said.

The family of eight, ranging from a one-year-old girl to a 72-year-old man, were in the house. A woman managed to call 911.

According to sources, when police arrived at the house, they could see family members lying on the ground with their hands raised through a window. Police called for backup and quickly surrounded the house.

Two of the adults in the home sustained injuries. Police said one person was punched in the face and another was struck on the foot with a hammer.

A woman managed to escape with a baby through a window.

“You immediately see (officers) rushing to the baby and the mother and helping them,” the neighbor explained.

According to sources, officers attempted to engage in dialogue with the suspects inside, but all three sneaked out through a kitchen window with cash and fled on foot.

Police launched a drone over the area and were able to locate the trio. All three were quickly taken into custody.

Ryan Dash, 30, and Brendan Dash, 30, are charged with robbery, assault and burglary. The third suspect, who was not immediately identified by authorities, will face similar charges.

Information about the lawyers of the three men was initially not known.
