Obituary for Michael Anthony Enos 2024

MICHAEL A. ENOS

April 16, 1956 – August 19, 2024

Michael A. Enos died peacefully at home. Present were his brother Bob, his sister-in-law Raye and his pets, dog Daisy and cat Buster

Michael was born in Wareham, MA and lived with his parents Joselyn and Robert in Sagamore Beach, MA from 1959 to 1997. After outliving his mother/primary caregiver “Jos,” Michael began his journey to independent living with his brother by his side. The two were inseparable for 27 years. Michael served his communities for 30 years as a member of the Lions Clubs, for which he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for his tireless fundraising efforts, a source of great pride.

Michael suffered from a genetic disease called Tuberous Sclerosis, which left him with a very debilitating health situation throughout his life. TSC is a multi-organ disease that is the most common genetic cause of epilepsy and autism. After brain surgery at age 11, Michael suffered from partial paralysis, epilepsy, and cognitive impairment for the rest of his life. Despite these challenges, Michael, along with his service dogs, became widely known as someone with great courage, an irrepressible smile, and boundless love for his fellow human beings.

He was an avid swimmer for 30 years and was often seen at the pool with his brother Bob, swimming half-mile laps twice a week. His doctors in the Boston area considered him a walking miracle.

Before Michael died, his mother Joselyn, his father Robert and the service dogs Magnum, Joni and Kabob.

Michael leaves behind his brother Bobby and sister-in-law Raye of Willmar, MN, and his sister Jayne of Boston, MA. He will be buried in a private ceremony next to his parents at Massachusetts National Cemetery.

Before his death, Michael donated his brain tissue to the Brain and Tissue Research Center at the University of Maryland School of Medicine for research. For those interested in memorials, Michael would be happiest if his friends would bring a smile to at least one complete stranger every day.
